Features whilst on furlough.

Hello all! (Get the reference there? Well, you soon will!) Welcome back me! And you! Hasn't it been a lifetime? I thought I would ease myself back in to blogging by just documenting what I have been watching recently. Please don't judge..

I have been furloughed since the beginning of May!

Unsolved Mysteries (Netflix)
Some of the stories I had trouble getting into.. For example, I am not really a X-Phile. I remember watching this a lot when I was younger and I loved it. I am definitely a true crime kinda gal and since being on furlough I have also found listening to true crime podcasts a great distraction. I know! I had never listening to a podcast in my life up until lockdown, now I can't get enough. Recommendations in the comments are welcome!

Athlete A (Netflix)
This really struck a chord with me as I used to do gymnastics when I was in my teens. My naivety when it came to this sport makes me feel queasy even now. I am actually currently reading the literature named in the documentary; Chalked Up by Jennifer Sey and oh wow! I would definitely recommend as a lot of the behaviours she mentions I can even relate to in adult life; striving to always do and be better, competition from peers etc.

Selling Sunset (Netflix)
This was such an easy reality TV watch. It definitely gave all those summer vibes, which as you may know if you are from the UK it is something we are completely lacking at the minute.

13th (Netflix)
Prompted by the Black Lives Matter movement. I hate that it has taken such fatal actions to make me wake up and take notice. It's shameful on my part, but by watching documentaries like this one I feel like I am better equipped and more informed for the future. This documentary shocked me to the core, I was just sat there with my mouth open for the entire hour and 45 minutes.

I don't want to generalise, but when I was in school some 20 years ago I don't believe they ever really addressed the history behind this atrocity. That's not to put the blame solely on my schooling and not my own self discipline for learning, but I guess if you haven't grown up with the knowledge it's easier to bury your head in the sand.

Belgravia (Amazon - £8.99)
I have always loved a period drama, and oddly enough my love for Friday Night Dinner (see below) lead me to this series. It stars Tamsin Greig and Paul Ritter, and it was great seeing them show such a range in acting ability in something so far removed from comedy.

Friday Night Dinner (Netflix/C4)
Honestly? My favourite find during lock down, I literally quote this programme daily. I love all the characters (apart from Johnny, soz!) and I just find each and every one of them relatable in some way, even Jim to some extent (did you get the reference at the beginning of this post??!)

The Mandalorian (Disney +)
This series is great for some major escapism. Fantasy, fictional faraway places and furlough really go together you ask me! You don't really need any prior knowledge of Star Wars to watch this either, although I have because I love it. Baby Yoda? Adorable. The Child! The Child!

The Imagineering Story (Disney +)
Growing up a Disney child through and through meant that this was such an interesting series for me. Each episode was quite dense and long, so it wasn't something I binge watched. I can definitely look at Disney with a fresh pair of eyes though, what thought and imagination these people have? Incredible!

Hamilton (Disney +)
Admittedly, I am definitely not as boned up on American history as this story requires you to be. However, the talent, ingenuity and the catchy songs was enough for me on first watch. My favourite song? Oh! Definitely Helpless.

I have also tried a couple of other programmes like; Murder in the Outback (C4) which I found slow moving, repetitive, and I just really couldn't get into it, and The Salisbury Poisonings (BBC) which I liked, but not really enough to get past the 2nd episode. If you want to keep more up to date on things I have been watching follow me on Instagram.

Anyway, I hope I haven't bored you too much. I am definitely a bit rusty at this ol' blogging lark! I have everything crossed I have got my writing mojo back.
